Obituary for Mrs. Annette Gebotys

Antonina Gebotys

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 26th, 2019 at the age of 94, surrounded by family and friends. Antonina “Annette” was born May 24, 1925, in Poland where she was the oldest of 7 children. In 1939 when Nazi Germany invaded Poland, she was taken from her home at the age of 14 and made to work as slave labor in Germany for 5 years. She immigrated to Canada in 1948, working in Winnipeg for one year. Both Antonina and her husband Joseph worked in factories in Guelph where they saved their money to purchase a variety store in Guelph called “Joe’s Confectionary” on Gordon Street.

Antonina and Joseph were loving parents of both Robert and Judy. Both Antonina and Joseph sponsored Judy and the family of Marian Kolodziejczak, Antonina’s younger brother. In her spare time, she showed her dedication to the Church of Our Lady by assisting with luncheons and funerals as well as crafting, sewing and baking for many fundraisers and projects. Antonina touched many lives and has been recognized for 40 years of volunteer work for Catholic charities. She has persevered through difficult times and showed a great deal of courage. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who will be missed by many.

Please join us in celebrating Antonina’s wonderful life at her visitation at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph, on Wednesday, May 29th, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. or at her Funeral Mass which will be held at the Basilica of Our Lady, 28 Norfolk St., Guelph, on Thursday, May 30th, 2019 at 10 a.m.
