Obituary for Mr. Bruce Joseph Clayton

Clayton, Bruce Joseph –

Passed away peacefully, following a courageous and lengthy battle with his health, at Hospice Wellington with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

Bruce was the loving husband for 72 years to Gert. Dedicated father of Alice and her husband Rick Vanderlip, late Helen (1987) and her husband Wayne Conkie, Donna and her husband Wayne Carmichael, Bruce Jr. and his wife Cindy, Bob and his wife Jane and Ron and his wife Marlene. He was the cherished grandfather of 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. Bruce is survived by his brother Garnet Clayton, and his sisters June Fernie and Doreen Young. He was predeceased by his 3 brothers Newt, Bill and Bev Clayton.

His passion for hockey and children lead him to numerous awards over 36 years in Guelph Minor Hockey which included Coach of the Year, Executive of the Year, the William Berry Award for outstanding service and the Life Membership Award which is the highest recognition in Guelph Minor Hockey. He was a long time employee of Canadian General Electric yet above all, Bruce was a family man and his family always came first. We would like to thank Hospice Wellington Staff for their care, compassion and support.

His family will receive friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 7 - 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 12 – 2 p.m. A service to commemorate Bruce’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. If so desired, memorial donations to Hospice Wellington would be appreciated by his family. Cards are available at the funeral home and condolences can be left at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com.
