Obituary

Craig Alexander Otto
May 4, 1927 - May 23, 2020

Craig died peacefully in his sleep, at the Guelph General hospital. He was in his 94th year. He will be sorely missed by Marion, his wife and best friend for more than 70 years, his children, Marshall (Clarissa), Susan and Rebecca (David), as well as his 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Craig was a favourite teacher to hundreds of students. His 35-year teaching career spanned from a 1-room schoolhouse to a professorship at U of T. His final years of teaching were at Kincardine District Secondary School. He will be missed by his many friends at Guelph Lake Commons. Craig was well-loved by everyone, and an inspiration to us all, always cheerful, always ‘Fair to Middlin’. He leaves a big hole in our hearts which is full of great memories.

Marion and family,

I was saddened to read about Craig’s passing today, my sincere condolences. Mr. Otto as I always thought of him was my high school drafting teacher back in a time when not many females took drafting. He expressed confidence, patience, and caring when I needed it the most, thank you. I didn’t become an architect however I remain passionate about residential construction and have contributed to many house builds including our current home which is regarded as one of the nicest homes in our community, thank you. You will all agree he will be missed.

Regards,
Sandy Fischer, student KDSS

I was saddened to read of Craig's passing in our local paper yesterday. We were on the Bruce Board of Education together in the 1980s-90s and often travelled together from Kincardine to Chesley, getting to know each other well in the process. I was also privileged to have been Marion and Craig's realtor in a couple of transactions. My mother now lives in the new apartment building next to their former Kincardine home on Huron Terrace, so I think of Craig and Marion every time I go to visit.
Craig was gifted when it came to renovating a home and in many other ways. He was a true gentleman and a good friend and colleague and I am happy to have known Craig.
My deepest sympathy to you Marion and your family.
