DENNIS, Douglas Jack (Veteran WWII)

At 93 years old, passed away to join his family in heaven, his loving wife of over 50 years, the late Jeanette (nee Illerbrun) (2006), their oldest daughter Linda McConville (2013) and their daughter Deb Haugh (2015). Doug Dennis was the eldest son born to the late Russell and Dorothy Dennis. The remaining family is sad to see him go: children Gail (Ric Leduc), Kathy (Al Shody), Rick Dennis (Wanda), Patti Henderson and Paul Dennis (Nancy) and sons-in-law John McConville and Ken Haugh. Doug leaves behind his grandchildren: Tanya, Ryan, Aaron, Taya, Marcy, Greg, Alisha, Amber, Jen, Chris, Brittney, Ashley, Kyle, Nicole, Colin and Aiden and also, by 18 great-grandchildren. Doug is survived by his brother William and his sister Peg (Merv), his sister-in-law Kaye Dennis and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Len and Marg Rainey. He was predeceased by his brother Donald (2009).

Doug called Guelph his home since his early school days. After serving 20 years in the Canadian Air Force (following his time during the war), he returned to Guelph. He worked at Fiberglas before retiring. He and his wife Jeanette loved to travel and they always felt fortunate that they had good health to do so.

Please join the family for a Celebration of Life at the Elliott Community Centre, The Elliott, 170 Metcalfe St., Guelph, the place that Doug called home for the past 13 years, on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 1 p.m. A memorial service has been planned to take place at Our Lady of Loretto Military Chapel, Edmonton, AB on Saturday, July 5th, 2019.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Foundation of Guelph General Hospital would be appreciated by the family. Cards are available at the funeral home (519-822-4731) and condolences may be sent to

My deepest condolences to Doug's family at this sad time. Doug and your mom were dear friends to my parents Dave and Grace Roszel. After my dad passed away Doug watched over mom so she could have the chance to go camping and so she had a true friend to share things with. I am saddened that both of our parents have passed but they now are all together again. RIP Doug
