Obituary

RIDER, James (Jim) William

Passed away on Thursday, September 26th, 2019, age 87, at Guelph General Hospital surrounded by his family. Loving husband of 66 years to Josephine Rider (Beliski). Devoted father to Debra Bartley, Cathy Baxter (Ed), Sherry Setchell, Theresa Rider and Bill Rider (Glenna). Cherished grandfather to Lia, Candiss, Matthew, Justin, Adam, Caitlin and Kelly. Caring great-grandfather to Aiden, Alexis, Jacob, Marek, Danielle and Liam. Dearest brother to Margaret Groselle (Frank) and brother-in-law to Marilyn Rider. Predeceased by his parents William and Agnes Rider, his sister and brother-in-law Mildred Rider and Dr. Stanley Iwan and his brother Joseph Rider.

Jim touched many lives. He was the founder of Ariss Fencing and very active for many years with the Maryhill Knights of Columbus. Jim loved fishing, the Blue Jays, watching golf (but not playing), travelling, crossword puzzles and his dogs, especially Chaser and Ralph. His greatest joy was enjoying the wildlife from his chair in the family room.

Jim’s family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Sunday, September 29th, 2019 at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph. A funeral mass will be held at St. Boniface R.C. Church in Maryhill at 10:00 am on Monday, September 30th, 2019. Interment to follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Wellington or to the Guelph Humane Society would be appreciated by the family. Online donations and condolences can be made at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com.

" Although I did not know Jim that well just to say Hi. I really appreciate the help his family gave to my Uncle Tim in his final days. Sorry I could not attend services. I had commitments I could not get out of. ”

Josie and family,
My heartfelt sympathy, love and prayers flowing your way. Jim was one of a kind - a "miserable" kind man with whom I loved to joke. I am privileged to have witnessed the deep and lasting love between Jim and you, Josie. He will be forever in my heart, as you are. I'm so sorry I am away and cannot be a part of the celebration to honour the special man that Jim will be remembered as.
I will see you soon, Josie, and Jim - till we meet again......jackpot! Warm regards, Sue Weber Bell
