STARGL, Johanna (Hansi) Maria (nee Grinzinger), passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington on October 19, 2019 at the age of 86. Born on September 22, 1933 in Linz, Austria. Daughter to Theresa Grinzinger (nee Thallinger) and Ignaz Grinzinger. Predeceased by brothers Joseph Grinzinger and Friederich Grinzinger. Sister to Elfriede Van Riezen (Grinzinger).

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Friederich (Fred) Stargl (2010), son Werner Stargl (1977) and daughter Silvia Stargl (2013). Adored mother to Regina Williams (Brian) and cherished Oma to grandson Erich Williams.

Johanna and Fred were members of the Austrian Continental Club in Hamilton, Ontario for over 30 years and The Guelph German Canadian Club for 7 years.

Johanna has demonstrated time and again what a Warrior and true Superhero look like. Her strong will, stubbornness and true determination helped her beat cancer three times and survive two strokes.

She was a kind, compassionate, selfless woman who always put everyone else’s needs ahead of her own. Johanna was very loved and admired by so many. She was a master chef in her own rights. We always looked forward to her home-cooked meals and her sinful pastries and cakes, all done by scratch and memory.

Heaven has truly received an extra special Angel. Rest now my sweet momma. Hug dad, Silvia and Werner and tell them how much they are missed and loved.

Special thanks to the compassionate care and beautiful surroundings at Hospice Wellington. The nurses, personal support workers, chaplain and all the volunteers there are heaven sent. What a wonderful place to have your loved one stay at the end of their journey.

Johanna spent her last five years in a long-term-care facility, where she and our family made a lasting connection with a select group of staff members. This was evident during the final week of Johanna’s life as these staff members visited her both in hospital and hospice. You ladies know who you are and we appreciate you more than you know. Special thanks also for the support of family and friends, in particular Pat Stuetzle.

In Johanna’s memory, donations to Hospice Wellington would be appreciated. Cards are available at Gilbert McIntyre and Son Funeral, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph (519-822-4731) or online at

Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
