Obituary

Kirk, John
Passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, April 28th 2019 at St Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph. John was born in South Port, England September 26th 1948 and grew up in Oakville. John worked for many years for the Ontario Jockey Club where he met the love of his life, Kay. John and Kay were married almost 30 years ago in Milton and then in retirement moved to Rockwood. During their many years together, they enjoyed travelling the world, mostly by cruise ship.

John was a hard worker, having full time careers with both Canada Post and The Ontario Jockey Club. He enjoyed most sports and was an avid Toronto fan; Blue Jays, Maple Leafs and Raptors. His favourite teams to watch though, were those that his grandchildren played for. He would receive the most dedicated fan award. John had an interest in the horse racing industry for countless years and in his retirement he and Kay co-owned a number of standardbreds and loved the sport.

John was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Kay), father of Leigh Anne, Tim & Tara. Step father to Jenifer (Mike) and Joel (Karen) and devoted grandpa to Jacob, Hannah and Adelie, Noah, Jonas and Felix. John is survived by his brother David (Janie) and nephews; Matthew, Michael, Jamie and Evan.

We welcome family and friends to join us in a celebration of John’s life at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St., N., Guelph, for visitation on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to the St Joseph’s Health Centre Hospice in appreciation of the compassionate care shown to John and family.

Kay: I was heartbroken to hear of John's passing. After working with both yourself and John for years and remembering all the shenanigans that went on I know this may sound out of place, but it brought a smile to my face. Oh to have those days back. My heart goes out to you, but I hope knowing John is at peace comforts you. My brother John ( who worked with John at the Post Office) and I send our deepest condolences.
