Our mother, grandmother, matriarch and friend Moyra Margaret O’Brien Obermeyer Beitz entered into eternal life in the arms of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Wednesday October 30, 2019 after complications from a fall.

Moyra was born in her parents’ pub in Birkenhead, England on September 2, 1937. Her older brothers Derek O’Brien and Gerald O’Brien (both deceased) had already left home when she was born. Her mother and father, Margaret Rice O’Brien and James O’Brien immigrated to Hamilton Ontario Canada in 1952, where she met her adult brothers in Canada. They returned to England a couple of years later with homesickness. In 1956, Moyra returned to Hamilton with her parents and at age 20, she met and married Robert Joseph Obermeyer, her loving first husband. The couple had 6 children, Anne (Cameron), Robert (deceased in infancy), James, Peter (deceased in infancy), Vincent and Paul. Moyra also met her friend and confidant Marie
Crone in Hamilton in the 1950’s and their friendship has continued and deepened over the years.

Moyra’s optimism and zest to participate in life and her tenacity to keep going after experiencing life’s trials was exemplary. She was a very faithful and spiritual person and she regularly prayed for every member of her family and even for those she heard about in need of prayers. She took an avid interest in politics and financially supported many social justice and animal protection agencies. She had a special love for all animals. Moyra dazzled everyone with her amazing and accurate memory and never forgot important dates, birthdays and anniversaries. Moyra taught her children to always do the right thing by her example and her expectation. In 1993, Moyra lost Bob after a wonderful marriage of 35 years and in 1998, was blessed to meet and marry her second loving husband, Clayton Beitz. Together they built and enjoyed an active life in Southampton, Ontario for 20 years and met many dear friends. Moyra enjoyed relationships with Clayton’s three daughters, Chris Mortimer, Lynda Fitzgerald and Mary Lamot. Moyra and Clayton relocated to Guelph to be closer to family after some health issues two years ago. The time spent with her in Guelph is forever treasured by her children and grandchildren and her loving extended family who embraced her, Eve, Joel, and Leanne Harding and Jennifer Harding Sara. Moyra passed away in peace at Wellington Hospice with her 4 children and husband present. Her daughter Anne is forever grateful that Moyra waited for her to return from a trip to Mexico before she said goodbye.

Moyra is survived by her husband Clayton Beitz, her children Anne Cameron, son-in-law Mark Cameron, James Obermeyer, Vincent Obermeyer and wife Stephanie Hillier Obermeyer, Paul Obermeyer and wife Lisa Harding Obermeyer and grandchildren Kyle Patrick Cameron, Alicia Kathleen Cameron, Joshua Robert Obermeyer, Tabatha Joanna Obermeyer, Emery Moyra Obermeyer and Mason Robert Obermeyer. She also leaves loving nieces Joanne, Terry, Michelle, and nephews Kevin, Terrence, Bill, Paul, Mark (deceased) and Dan and Bob’s sisters Elaine Moore (Robert), Margaret Maguire (Joseph deceased) and Maureen Jennings and Lawrence Jennings (both deceased).

Viewing will take place from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Saturday November 2, 2019 at Gilbert MacIntyre and Sons Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, Ontario and an ecumenical memorial celebration will be held at the funeral home chapel on Sunday, November 3,2019 at 10 am. Internment to take place in the future. Cremation has taken place.

Heartfelt love and thanks extended to the care-givers at Guelph General Hospital and especially to the earth angels at Wellington Hospice who provided a dignified and spiritual atmosphere for Moyra’s transition. Also many thanks to her family physician, Doctor Manu Kaushik, who comforted Moyra during health challenges with such warmth, concern and professionalism.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Guelph Humane Society would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences available at
