I cannot express how truly shocked, sad and upset I am to have recently learned that lovely Norma has passed away. My deepest condolences to Norma’s husband, children and grandchildren. The grief of losing such a wonderful, loving person will be immense.
I knew Norma only from the
market and from her amazing food. I loved chatting with her about family, work, and of course food. She always made me laugh and also always had kind and caring words when I needed to hear them. So much love, light, and compassion in this one lady. Norma was so special and had such a positive impact on so many people.
I will cherish the many happy memories I have of our Saturday chats and count myself lucky to have called Norma my friend. All my love and sympathy to the family.

My family and I only knew Norma through the Farmer's Market, but she feels very much like a part of our lives. Our boys have grown up with her radiant smile on a Saturday morning, and her encouragement to have more tabbouli, or salsa, or cabbage salad. She introduced my husband to mujadara (his favourite breakfast dish now!) and her ginger and lentil soup has chased away many colds. We shared her excitement as marriages and babies arrived, and we wish her family peace in this difficult time, knowing that Norma touched so many people with her genuine warmth and open-heartedness. We are so sorry she is gone, and so honoured to have known her, even a little.

Dear, sweet Norma will be missed by so many of her "market fans", whose hearts she touched warmly on a weekly basis. My sincere condolences to her family. Such a sad loss. Norma was a ray of sunshine on a Saturday morning. She always remembered my children's names, where they lived and asked about them often and always with genuine sincerity. When my daughter would come to town, she always told Norma that no one in Ottawa could cook as well as she. To this, Norma would flash that glorious, infectious smile that captured all of our hearts. The creations of her genius, culinary skills were as she was; outstanding and nurturing. One could feel the love and care she put into everything she did. Norma was truly one of kind; creative, gentle, caring and hardworking. She left her mark on all of us who had the privilege to meet her. She will be missed, but not forgotten!
