Dear Nancy and Trevor
I was saddened to see the obituary for Rob, and I wanted to send you my condolences. Although our paths went separate ways so many years ago I will never forget Rob’s zest for making friends, for friendly arguments, his passionately held ideas. He was perhaps the brightest person I have ever known and was also very funny!
I will always remember your family with gratitude and affection.

I had the pleasure and privilege of knowing Rob as a friend and a colleague for over 50 years. He was a year ahead of me at U of T Law School and then we both taught at Western for several decades.

Rob had strong political views which he espoused freely and worked diligently for. He remained steadfast in his beliefs of fairness, justice, and equality with special privleges for none. Indeed, I was often amused by students who mistakenly believed he held right-wing views after the rest of the world eventually caught up to his at one-time radical perspective.

Nor was his interest and breadth of knowledge confined to law and politics -- he was a stalwart member of a small group of law faculty members who for a time played weekly trivia at a local pub. And played quite well -- we triumphed once as the top team in North America.

I am saddened at Rob's passing and I extend my heart-felt condolences to his family.

Rob was my colleague in the Faculty of Law, UWO, for many years. We worked closely together in preparing teaching materials for Constitutional Law and in delivering the Law for Journalists course that Rob created and nurtured. I respected his intellect greatly and valued his comments on the drafts of my articles. I also worked on his political campaigns when he boldly challenged a popular incumbent in London East.

Rob always called a spade a spade, whether in conversation or in his writing. He fearlessly spoke his mind. He also showed incredible courage in battling the effects of a car accident early in life and of his strokes much later.

Dear Family:
I am so sorry to learn of your loss. Rob was a treasured colleague and friend. His scholarship will live on, as will his memory among the students whose careers he helped shape.
Rest eternal, grant him O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him.
