I would like to extend my since condolences to Kathleen, Cyd and family. I was a city councillor with both Séan (2000 to 2003) and Kathleen (2007-2010), and I respected and admired both of them. In particular, as an environmentalist myself, I really admired Séan's dedication to the environment long before it was the popular thing to do, and before climate change became the emergency that it is now. His foresight on this issue was ahead of its time, and his loss is a loss for all of us who care for the well-being of our planet.

I was shocked and surprised to learn, in Thursday's Guelph Tribune, of his sudden passing. Unfortunately, I only sat down to read the paper this afternoon (Monday), otherwise I would have attended one of the visitations yesterday or this morning's service. Again, I am so sorry for the loss of a much-loved family member and important member of the Guelph community . Maggie Laidlaw

I have been in shock and heavy hearted since hearing the news of Sean’s passing. He was the first person I talked to about the Guelph pilgrimage in 2015, and after a quick phone conversation with him I no longer felt that it was a crazy endeavour to fly all the way to Ontario from Saskatchewan and walk for 8 days with a group of strangers. In fact, after talking to Sean, I didn’t feel like a stranger any more. Sean embodied the spirit of Christ in his warmth, welcome, humour, and ‘suffering service’. One of many memories of this for me will always be what I witnessed a few summers ago. The team was hard at work setting up a lunch spot in a crowded area along a busy high way when a group of bicyclists rode in and stopped on the small patch of grass we had set up for the tired and hungry pilgrims who would soon arrive. Then Sean walked over and I winced as I thought he was about to do the difficult job of asking this group to leave. But he didn’t. Instead, Sean warmly introduced himself and told them about our group. Then he said, "over in that yellow truck we have cold water and iced tea, and we are about to have some lunch soon - why don’t you join us?”
Sean, in my mind you were at least 7 feet tall with a heart of gold, and arms that could hug a group of 80 all at once. I cannot imagine the pilgrimage without you, and my heart is broken that you had to leave so soon. I hold in my heart Enya, and all your many loved ones - surely they are innumerable. I find comfort in the assurance that you have been welcomed back into that love that you yourself so freely gave - forever embraced with that beautiful spirit of hospitality and friendship that comes from Christ himself. God bless you, and all you loved my brother.

Sean, you were one great guy. Best soccer co-coach I've ever had. You made it fun. We had some good rounds of golf too. I will kick myself forever for not calling you for another round of golf. You're gone way too soon, but you can be proud of the family you've left behind.
